2025 Scans for Cans Campaign

Assess your health and ensure the health of our Kearney community

HEALTHY YOU, HEALTHY US

Campaign Overview

Evergreen Health and Wellness is proud to kick off our Scans for Cans campaign at the Kearney Community Market on July 26th.

Bring a bag of non-perishable food donations for the Kearney Food Pantry and receive a FREE InBody body composition scan and a health risk assessment. No appointment necessary—just show up, donate, and take a step toward better health while supporting your neighbors in need. In addition to our kickoff event, Evergreen will host several healthy assessment clinics throughout the summer (online pre-registration required, see below for schedule).

Why Scans for Cans

Did you know that 60% of Americans have a diet-related chronic disease? Did you know that in 2023, 15.4% of the Missouri population was considered food insecure? At Evergreen, our mission is to ensure our clients are healthy for life. That means addressing both preventive care and community needs—like food access. By donating to the Kearney Food Pantry, you’re not only taking a step toward understanding your own health—you’re helping neighbors in need access nourishing food.

Our Goal

Between July 16 and August 29, 2025 we aim to help 100 Kearney Residents Assess their Health Status and Chronic Disease Risk Factors and Collect 100 bags of non-perishable foods for our Kearney Food Pantry.

What’s a “bag of food”

When it comes to helping our Kearney community, we have big goals. Therefore, we’re asking for individuals to fill a “walmart sack” sized bag with non-perishible goods from the Kearney Food Pantry’s Donation list.

Health Risk Assessment Details

Benefits of Body Composition Analysis (e.g., InBody Scan):

  1. Goes beyond the scale – Measures fat mass, lean muscle mass, and water weight for a more accurate picture of health than weight or BMI alone.

  2. Identifies hidden health risks – High body fat percentage or low muscle mass may indicate risk for conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, or metabolic syndrome—even in people with a “normal” weight.

  3. Tracks progress effectively – Helps individuals monitor fat loss and muscle gain over time, supporting long-term success with lifestyle changes.

  4. Supports personalized care – Allows dietitians and health professionals to tailor nutrition and exercise plans based on each person’s unique body composition.

Benefits of Measuring Waist Circumference:

  1. A key marker of visceral fat – Excess abdominal fat is strongly linked to insulin resistance, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

  2. Simple and predictive – A waist measurement over 35 inches (women) or 40 inches (men) is a red flag for increased disease risk—even if BMI is in a healthy range.

  3. Easily trackable – Helps individuals see improvements in central fat loss, which is more strongly linked to disease prevention than overall weight.

Benefits of the CDC Prediabetes Risk Assessment:

  1. Early detection – Identifies individuals at risk for prediabetes or type 2 diabetes before symptoms appear, when lifestyle changes can be most effective.

  2. Quick and accessible – A short, simple questionnaire that can be done in minutes, making it an easy first step toward better health.

  3. Motivates action – Seeing a “high risk” result often encourages people to seek preventive care, make dietary changes, or schedule a follow-up with a healthcare provider.

  4. Validated and evidence-based – Developed by the CDC and used nationwide as a screening tool for diabetes prevention efforts.
